The Apprentice will be able to enhance their skills within a creative commercial environment.

The successful candidate will work as an Apprentice web developer within a team of 4 graphic designers and web developers.

Daily responsibilities will include:

  • Working on web design projects both alone and within the team of developers.
  • Handing technical support emails.
  • The candidate may also be expected to work with Adobe Photoshop creating graphics and visual concepts for website projects.

The candidate may also be expected to answer more advanced customer emails and/or communicate with customers via telephone from time to time further into their placement.

  • Good communication skills

  • HTML experience (essential)
  • CSS experience (essential)
  • PHP experience (preferred)
  • JQuery (experience preferred but not essential)
  • Dreamweaver CS (experience preferred)
  • Photoshop CS (experience preferred)
  • MySQL Database (experience preferred but not essential)

Qualifications required

To apply for this position, you will need:

A little experience and interest in web development required.

The candidate must be have Maths and English at level 1 or A-D CGSE grades and level 2 for IT.

Future prospects

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and skill progress within Vista Design the candidate may be offered a Junior Web Developer position, with the opportunity to develop to a Web Developer after a further 2 years depending on skills and progress.

Things to consider

Telford College are managing this vacancy on behalf of this company. As part of the screening process of applications you may be contacted by Telford College and invited in for a face to face interview as part of our screening process. Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution. The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) for apprentices from the 1st October 2017 is £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. The new NMW applies to time working plus time spent training as this is also part of the Apprenticeship. Anyone not covered by this age category above will be entitled to the NMW appropriate for their age.

Vista Design is a cutting edge, graphic design and web development studio based in Telford, Shropshire. Established for over 7 years we now actively manage over 120 websites and have developed over 300 for our customers. We have worked with start-up companies, medium-sized businesses and some of the largest organisations in the UK, USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The company is based on the Queensway Business Park approximately 3 miles from Telford town centre. It employs less than 10 people.

Training provider

As part of the apprenticeship the candidate will be working towards a workplace training plan within their organisation as well as working towards the apprenticeship framework components with Telford College.

The candidate will achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in IT Professional Competence
  • Level 2 Award in IT Systems and Principles
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English at level 1, IT at level 2
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.
