As an apprentice your duties will include:

  • Meeting clients
  • Answering the phone
  • Making bookings
  • Helping colleagues with clients
  • Cleaning and making refreshments
  • As you progress you will become involved in styling, colouring and cutting.

You will receive a full induction in the salon with ongoing support as well as attending Exeter College one day a week.

Qualifications required

Applicants must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 9 - 4 including Maths and English or equivalent.

Future prospects

After successful completion of your intermediate Apprenticeship you should consider progressing onto your advanced level. You could be considering for a permanent role in the salon after you are qualified.

Things to consider

Hairdressing is hard work and you will spend a lot of time standing! The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week). For more information visit:
