    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

  • Plasterers can work on both interiors and exteriors of buildings.

  • Plasterers usually work as part of a small team and can specialise in either solid or fibrous plastering. 
  • Solid plastering involves applying wet finishes to surfaces and protective coverings like pebble-dashing on external walls. 
  • Fibrous plastering is the creation of ornamental pieces such as cornices or ceiling roses, using a mixture of plaster and fibres to fill molds or casts.

Qualifications required

  • GCSEs or equivalent/ in English and Maths.
  • Completion, or close to completion, in a Level 2 Plastering Qualification.

Future prospects

We offer courses from Level 2 through to Higher Apprenticeships at Level 4 so we can support candidates right through their professional development.
