An Apprenticeship position in the kitchen to work alongside a skilled team of Chefs and Kitchen assistants. The successful candidate will be given full training with on the job and off the job training.

The position will require the successful candidiate to:

  • Work shifts; this will include working weekends, evenings and early mornings.
  • Preparation of meals to a high standard and ensure that customer delivery is prompt and efficient
  • Follow Hygiene standards as set by the EHO.
  • Ensure that the kitchen team functions successfully during food service.
  • Ensure at all times the highest standard of presentation, cleanliness and behaviour of yourself and support staff.
  • Follow Health and Safety procedures in the work place

Future prospects

The possibility of progression onto a full time position on completion of the apprenticeship or progression onto a higher level apprenticeship

Things to consider

One day a week will be spent at Strode College, Street while undergoing the apprenticeship. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Hawthorns is a privately owned, independent small Hotel, owner operator with over 40 years experience in the trade. Simon Sturt is a fellow of the BII, has an OND in Hotel and Catering Operations, completed a Management training scheme with THF has a Diploma in Health and Hygiene, and currently up to date Food Hygiene certificate and a full Liquor Licence.
