    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Job Purpose

To carry out high quality maintenance work to the Group’s properties and for external customers through undertaking the traditional duties of a multi-skilled trade operative that include: plumbing, carpentry and building

Physical Considerations

This post requires the post-holder to carry out duties of a physical nature, within defined manual handling restrictions.

Training and support

In addition to the Apprentice Framework the successful applicants will be provided with on the job training and support from experienced multi-trade operatives. A mentor will also be allocated to the Apprentice who will arrange regular one-to-one meetings throughout the Framework Programme and beyond.

Mandatory Health and Safety training and the supply of full PPE will be provided by the Company.

Key Tasks

On completion of the Apprenticeship the following tasks will comprise the key requirements of the role.

Repairs Work

  • To carry out all the traditional duties of a multi-skilled operative, including plumbing, carpentry, wet trades and building plus related finishes, patching and making good tasks
  • To collect job orders and arrange visits to keep pre-arranged appointments, as appropriate.
  • To carry out jobs according to instructions and to keep materials usage to a minimum consistent with required quality standards.
  • To report to the Responsive Repairs Team Leader any additional items or defects encountered during the course of day-to-day work.
  • To ensure that work is carried out in accordance with all Health and Safety at Work regulations and codes of practice, including wearing protective clothing as supplied, and to attend training as requested.

Supplies

  • To collect necessary goods from stock or from suppliers.
  • To ensure that all tools, vehicles, equipment and plant used are kept in good, clean working order and serviced regularly.

Administration

  • To keep accurate daily and weekly records of work carried out on job tickets and timesheets or portable computer, in accordance with procedures.

General

  • To maintain a professional and cordial relationship with tenants whose homes are visited.
