    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Abstract Hairdressing is looking for an apprentice to join its friendly and professional team.

The successful candidate will assist in the salon with:

  • Preparing clients
  • Washing hair
  • Acquiring product knowledge
  • Meeting and greeting clients
  • Helping to keep the salon tidy

Ideally, candidates will enjoy working with people, will be hard-working and reliable, and will be passionate about hair and keen to learn.

Exact days and hours will be confirmed at interview. Regular working days are between 9am and 6pm, with 1 hour for lunch. The apprentice will also be required to work one late night a week, with hours running between 12pm and 9pm, with 1 hour for lunch. The apprentice will receive the Apprentice Minimum Wage.

• One late night per week • Working Saturdays • Hairdressing is physically hard work and you will be on your feet for a long time every day • Hairdressing requires some understanding of human biology and chemistry, and this will be taught during your Apprenticeship • Hairdressing is heavily customer-focused and you will be constantly interacting with people

Training provider

All practical training will take place in the salon on Wednesday evenings. Once a month, the apprentice will attend college where theory work will be taught.

The apprentice will work towards an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing, which includes a ITEC NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, as well as Functional Skills qualifications in both English and Mathematics.
