    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are looking to take on an apprentice to work in our busy kitchen at The new Plough in Dipton.

The successful applicant will be trained to a high standard to suit the level of our kitchen staff, starting with starters and sweets moving to garnish and finally the grill.

In doing the above you will learn how to:

  • Make and collect orders
  • Rotate stock
  • Work in a clean and efficient manner 

As well as developing core skills such as:

  • The ability to use knives for specific purposes
  • Being able to work under pressure
  • Keeping yourself clean and presentable

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

Have basic knife skills as well as some kitchen experience.

Personal qualities

Great personal hygiene, great punctuality, the want to learn and a passion for food

No qualifications necessary but advantageous

Future prospects

Our company is expanding all of the time and we are opening 3-5 new venues a year, so when you complete your apprenticeship there is room within our kitchen at The new Plough to progress up the kitchen or to take a higher role in a different venue.

Things to consider

Our kitchen is fast paced to a high quality and the role is physically demanding. Ifyou think you are suitable for this position you must be able to think fast, you must be flexible as it is any 5 days over the full week and you must be passionate about serving high quality food.
