    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

A luxury hotel in the heart of Nottinghamshire is set in 9 glorious acres of parkland and delightful gardens, Kelham House is the perfect setting to relax, indulge and explore.  Kelham House Hotel has 12 ensuite bedrooms as well as suites shared between the main House and the adjacent Coach House.

They are one of the most popular boutique wedding venues in Nottinghamshire, and can cater for all kinds of ceremonies, from small and intimate weddings to larger celebrations with up to 150 guests.

The Post

Working as part of the kitchen to prepare, cook and present a range of home-cooked dishes from fresh produce. You will learn how to prepare and cook a selection of items from the a-la-carte menu as well as catering for weddings and events on various scales.

Primary responsibilities will include;

  • Maintain a high level of hygiene and work in a safe manner at all times.
  • Open the kitchen and preparing equipment for service.
  • Prepare and present a range of starters, sandwiches and side dishes.
  • Wash, peel and cut a range of vegetables on a daily basis.
  • Learn to cook a range of meat, poultry and fish dishes using different cooking methods.
  • Present dishes to the required standard and maintain consistency across all plates.
  • Learn about food safety and apply food safety rules at all times.
  • Clean down the kitchen after service.
  • Assist with receiving of deliveries, putting stock away promptly following stock rotation.
  • Complete any kitchen checklists relevant to your section.
  • Work effectively as part of the kitchen team and keep communication with Head/Sous Chef during service.
  • Any reasonable request from Head Chef or management.

Applicants will be required to attend an Assessment Centre with Vision Apprentices as part of the screening process.

Things to consider

This is a Monthly paid post and you are required to work a week in hand. You may be required to work on a flexible basis. You will be entitled to receive statutory minimum annual leave. You are responsible for funding your own travel to and from your place of work and will be expected to travel as reasonably required. Shortlisted applicants will be subject to a pre-screening assessment. You must work with your assessor to complete course work on time and to a high standard. You must conduct yourself in a safe and diligent manner and comply with health and safety policies and procedures. You must uphold and promote the company policies and procedures, promoting those specifically to your area of work, including Equality and Diversity and Safeguarding. To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the post.
