The Cock Inn together with Babcock Training is looking to recruit an Apprentice Commis Chef to work in our busy kitchen, whilst learning and developing at the same time.

As an Apprentice Commis Chef you will work with the team to carry out the following:

  • Preparing and presenting high quality dishes.
  • Ensure consistent great food production, in line with the high quality standards.
  • Perform tasks within a timely manner.
  • Contribute to kitchen revenue through effective food cost control.
  • Provide support to the Kitchen brigade.
  • Prepare and present high quality dishes within company guidelines.
  • Keep all working areas clean and tidy and ensure no cross contamination.
  • Assist other departments wherever necessary and maintain good working relationships.
  • Report maintenance, hygiene and hazard issues.
  • Comply with restaurant security, fire regulations and all health and safety and food safety legislation.
  • Meet all health and hygiene requirements.

As an Apprentice you will be included on a Professional Cookery Qualification.

Your Qualification will be delivered by an Award Winning Training Provider who will support your learning and development throughout your Apprenticeship.

This will involve a Vocational Learning Advisor coming to visit you on a regular basis to deliver the training and guide you through your Apprenticeship.

None specific, but Hygiene Certificate is an advantage.

Future prospects

If the Apprenticeship is successfully completed there may be an opportunity for permanent employment within the business.

Things to consider

The kitchen is a highly pressurised area with high quality and time demands. The work pattern is any 5 days out of 7 on a rota basis. Shifts will include Bank Holidays,daytime, evenings, and weekend work to the requirements of the workplace. You will require your own transport to get to and from the business. The wage for this role will start off at £7 per hour but this is negotiable dependant on experience you can bring to the role. You will be on a 3 month trial.The role is for minimum of 30 hours but you could be asked to work more and wage will be pro rata accordingly. Please note you could be asked to interview earlier than date given, as we are looking to fulfil the positions as soon as possible. Please ensure you apply early to avoid disappointment. The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year. Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year. The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
