    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage rates are £4.05 an hour for 16 - 17 year olds, £5.60 an hour for 18 - 20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship(usually one day per week).

The Apprentice will work towards a Level 2 qualification in Front of House. The duties will include:

  • Bar and restaurant work
  • Serving customers
  • Meeting and greeting in the restaurant
  • Looking after customers’ needs
  • Clearing tables
  • Sweeping outside
  • Cleaning glasses
  • Taking orders
  • Meeting and greeting hotel guests
  • Learning the full food and drinks menu to make recommendations

 


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Someone who can take instruction with excellent listening skills
  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance
  • Ability to work within a team, but has the initiative to work unsupervised

Ability to work under pressure in a busy kitchen environment.

Personal qualities

The role will appeal to someone who is extremely passionate about working in hospitality. The successful apprentice will have high levels of personal hygiene and be extremely reliable.

Qualifications required

Good understanding of numeracy and literacy.

GCSE qualifications at grade C or above in English and maths or the ability to work towards Level 2 Functional Skills.

Future prospects

Further training and/or full time employment will be on the table for the right candidate based on performance during the Apprenticeship.

Things to consider

Salary will be reviewed after 12 weeks. Due to the nature of the role, the Apprentice will be required to work a variety of shift patterns to include evening, weekends, and bank holidays. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
