    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a welcoming atmosphere and greeting children on arrival.
  • Working as directed by the nursery manager to ensure compliance with all legal requirements.
  • Plan and carry out activities and play with the children.
  • Ensure adequate nursery hygiene.
  • Liaise with parents and carers.
  • Ensure all planned activities are carried out in an effective manner.
  • Adhere to nursery practices and procedures.
  • Work within a safe and secure systems of work at all times.

It would be desirable if you were patient, calm, well mannered, and a people person.

Qualifications required

You will need to either have achieved GCSE grades A* to C in English and Maths or equivalent or be working on achieving these grades by the end of your Apprenticeship.

Future prospects

There may be the possibility to progress onto a Level 3 Apprenticeship on successful completion of your Level 2.
