Working alongside qualified technicians to learn all aspects of Boat Building, servicing and repairing a diverse range of boats. Activities will include:

  • Commissioning at the start of a season
  • Detailed interior and exterior cleaning
  • Yacht repairs and fault finding Engine and generator servicing
  • Rig checks Running rigging service and re-rigs
  • Rig Tuning
  • Winch and windlass servicing
  • De-commissioning and winterisation
  • Safety equipment auditing and servicing
  • Re-sprays and paint repairs
  • GRP repairs
  • Antifouling
  • Refits with full Project Management

Qualifications required

Ideally you should have 5 GCSE A to C grade, however, this is not essential as you will be assessed on Maths and English when you attend our assessment day.

Future prospects

Progression to a level 3 will be available for the right candidate.

Things to consider

The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage (ANMW): From April 2017 the ANMW was set at £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.

Our experienced Marine centre in Fareham are currently the only approved centre in the UK to offer this exciting apprenticeship. You will complete the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Boat Building Standards Diploma
  • Functional Skills in Maths & English
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills

All training will be delivered by a combination of training in our Fareham Campus. The classroom sessions will be run by block release, usually for a 2 week period every 2 months.
