This Abattoir apprenticeship is the perfect starting point for someone looking to develop a skill they can make a career out of. You will work with a highly experienced team of slaughter operatives and undertake the following:

  • Gain in depth knowledge of animal welfare requirements to look after the pigs prior to slaughter and throughout the process.
  • Knife skills.
  • Slaughter experience to be a licenced abattoir operative.
  • Cutting skills to prepare the carcass prior to butchery.

We are looking for reliable, keen individuals with good communication skills and a genuine interest in food manufacturing and the slaughter process. You need to enjoy physical activities and working to targets. You must be willing to listen and have a great work ethic to learn the art of good abattoir skills and hopefully go on to be an established member of the growing team at Cranswick Country Foods.

Qualifications required

  • Good general standard of education; Maths and English qualifications GCSE grade ‘D’ or above OR predicted Maths and English GCSE grades ‘D’ or above OR equivalent.

Things to consider

You will be working in an abattoir within a factory environment and due to the nature of the work you will be physically active for most of the day. You must be comfortable with the concept of the slaughter process. You will be handling knives and raw meat. Shortlisting and Interviews - Shortlisting and interviews will take place throughout the duration of the vacancy ad. This may mean that the vacancy could close before the published cut-off date should suitable candidates be found.
