    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

In this role, your daily duties will include:

  • Helping to set up the learning environment for the daily activities
  • Recording observations of the children and writing reports
  • Interact with children, offering an appropriate level of support
  • Support meal times within the setting and carry out domestic tasks as required
  • Attend training courses when required
  • Be aware of and adhere to operational policies and procedures
  • To ensure that displays are kept current and up to date
  • To suggest ideas to feed into planning using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum
  • To help set up the learning environment both inside and out for the daily programme and help tidy away at the end of the session
  • To record observations of the children and write evaluations of group work
  • To interact with children, offering an appropriate level of support
  • To support meal times within the setting and carry out domestic tasks
  • To attend training courses as required
  • To be aware of and adhere to all the setting's operational policies and procedures
  • To promote the pre school to current parents and potential customers
  • To ensure that displays are kept current and up to date.

Qualifications required

There are no specific qualifications required, although you will be expected to be working on or have achieved GCSE Grades A* to C in Maths and English by the end of your Apprenticeship.

Future prospects

There may be the possibility to progress on to your Level 3 qualification on successful completion of your Level 2.
