    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Futures Apprenticeships is recruiting for Apprentice Teaching Assistants on behalf of Park Schools Federation in Shirebrook, near Mansfield, NG20 8JX, on a 52 week fixed term training programme.

As a Futures Apprentice, you will be employed by Futures Apprenticeships but based at the Park Schools Federation in Shirebrook for your work and training.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wishing to start a career as a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to train onsite whilst gaining valuable experience in a workplace setting. You will be supported throughout your training to study for a nationally recognised Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 2.

Examples of duties you can expect for the position include:

  • Undertaking activities with both individuals and groups of children.
  • Assisting with organising educational activities.
  • Helping to build and develop pupils' as they learn and grow.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

  • Good communication and team working skills.

Personal qualities

  • A genuine interest in working with children.
  • To be willing to take the opportunity of progressing to an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship.
  • An understanding of the principles of Equal Opportunities and the importance of confidentiality. when dealing with sensitive information.
  • The ability to use your initiative when necessary.

Qualifications required

  •  A good standard of education including a minimum of English, IT and Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification).

You will gain valuable experience in supporting teaching and learning in schools in this apprenticeship which could lead to the opportunity to progress to level 3 for the right candidate. Over 80% of Futures Apprentices progress into permanent employment or further education. This could be the opportunity to take your first step on the career ladder.

You must have the ability to travel to Shirebrook on a daily basis for your work and training. You will be subject to employer checks by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
