    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

Glendale are looking to start the career of 3 apprentices to learn from the experienced horticulturalists in all aspects of the service industry.

Duties will include:

  • General maintenance
    • Pruning
    • Weeding
    • Surface cultivation
  • Lawn care and management
  • Hedge cutting
  • Clearance
  • Use of 2 and 4 stroke machines

During the apprenticeship not only will you learn new skills, you will gain a pride and passion in the work you do with a possibility of a career upon successful completion.

Qualifications required

GCSE in the A* to E range in English and Maths or equivalent.

Future prospects

Apprentices will be able to apply for any vacancies that are advertised within the horticulture/landscaping industry.

Things to consider

Employers are likely to expect staff to be reliable, on time, trustworthy and enthusiastic! You may find yourself having to deal with some challenging situations! This industry may need you to be willing to work outside in most weathers. Training on the Apprenticeships Programme for 16 to 18 year olds is a priority and fully-funded by Government. Training for Apprenticeships for those over this age is part funded, with employers expected to make a part or full contribution.
