    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our growing team; the role will be based between the design department, working alongside 2 industrial designers, and the machining workshop.

A fast paced industry that is involved with constructing catwalk shows in London Fashion week along with window displays and temporary stands for pop-up events.

Based a short walk from Billericay train station. You will be required to check project packs for client issue and ensure all quality control has been considered. You will be responsible for plotting programs on to our 2 CNC machines and vinyl cutter and operating them both during busy periods. (training will be provided, but experience with CAD / CAM will be advantageous)

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience in AutoCAD, Vectorworks and Google sketchup are useful.
  • Experience in CAD/CAM relating to CNC Machines and 3D Printing would be ideal although training will be provided.

Qualifications required

Minimum of -

  • 3 x Grade C GCSE’s or above in English, Mathematics and ICT, with Science or Engineering Qualification.


  • Working towards or have completed a minimum of an NVQ Level 2 in an Engineering Discipline with Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Mathematics.

Future prospects

Role can progress into workshop based CNC operator or office based industrial designer, once familiar with industry and company, depending on the individual.

Training provider

You will undertake a Level 3 Engineering Manufacturing Apprenticeship, taking 3 years to complete.  You will attend PROCAT in Basildon on a block release basis for the first year then 1-day per week for the remainder of the apprenticeship.

The course involves study of engineering principles, mechanical assembly and CNC manufacture. At Level 3 students will learn mathematics for technicians, electro, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and devices, CAD/CAM, PLC (programmable logic controllers) and more.
