    Wages explained

    The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £3.50 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
    Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
    The minimum wage rates are £5.60 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.05 for anyone aged 21 and over.
    Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).

The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to:

  • Answer the telephone to book appointments and answer queries
  • Greet clients into the salon
  • Making refreshments for clients
  • Keeping the salon clean and tidy by sweeping and general upkeep
  • Assist stylists
  • Progression to cutting, colouring, blow drying and putting hair up

Things to consider

All applications should be made through the Stephenson College website and under no circumstances should a direct approach to the employer be made. Any direct approaches will result in your application NOT being considered for selection. From 1st October 2016 The National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £3.40 per hour. From April 2017 this rises to £3.50 per hour. This applies to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training. The successful candidate must be able to travel to both work and college for the duration of the apprenticeship. As part of the application process, candidates will also be required to attend a session at Stephenson College to undertake diagnostic testing and an initial interview for the position. The successful candidate will be required to attend Stephenson College on a day-release basis.
